vCloud Connector 2.5 - no route to host

$

Greetings,

when the vCenter starts to export the template it fails with "OVF export failed. No route to host".

The connector nodes and connector servers are all on the same vlan (stretched between two sites). Everything is "UP" in vCloud Connector Server, and both nodes have successfully registered their respective vCenter and vCloud Director.

All connector nodes and server can ping in every direction and resolve everything involved.

I have tried to google, but has not found anything involving this error and vCloud Connector.

Any suggestions would be most welcome :-)

Licensing VSSP/Perpetual

Hi,

We’ve set up 4 esx with perpetual license + 8 esx with VSPP license program on the same vcenter. It seems that all esx are included in VUM reporting as VSPP.

How can we definitely exclude our 4 esx server from VUM / VSPP ?

Thank you

Get disks for datastores through API

$

Hi,

I would like to retrieve disk information for each VM as admin (System) through the vCloud API. What I'm after is to see what datastore type each VM disk is created on (for example Gold, Silver, Bronze...).

I've tried to retrieve this information using the following API GET's, but none of them yield the information I'm after:

query?type=datastore

/org/<org_id>

/vdc/<vdc_id>

/vApp/vapp-<vapp_id>/virtualHardwareSection/disks

/vApp/vm-<vm_id>/virtualHardwareSection/disks

/admin/extension/vApps/query?type=vm&pageSize=128

/admin/extension/datastores/query?pageSize=128

I can see that Chargeback has this information in the chargeback database. But that information seems inconsistent and I want to grab it from vCloud myself. So I guess there is a way to do this.

Anyone have any clue about this?

Storage tier of VMDK managed by vCloud director

Hi All,

I understand we cannot use storage tiering of VMDK of VMs when managed by vCloud director.

At vSphere layer we can always separate vmdk's on different datastore.

e.g. As for any database it is standard practice to separate Log,tempdb and database on three different VMDK and these three different VMDK's are present on three different datastore.

This is not possible in vCloud director, all disks must go on single datastore.

Can you confirm if my understanding is correct?

Also what are better ways to achieve in order to ensure database right kind of performance

SDRS with linked clones and storage clustering

Hello,

we upgraded our infrastructure to vcloud director 5.5, backed by vCenter 5.5.

storage-wise, we have a storage cluster (in vCenter) with 4 datastores.

To save storage space, most of the machines are created as linked clones.

Yesterday we activated SDRS, and discovered strange behaviour: migrated machines (by SDRS) are inflated on the target datastores in the same datastore cluster.

Luckily, we could stop this process early enough to avoid SDRS from filling up our datastores.

Is this normal behaviour? Why doesn't SDRS create automatic shadow vm's on the other datastores instead of full clones?

HI

I was able to logon to VCD portal with ladap account earlier. All of a suddent I was not able to logon with my ldap account. with local account I am able to login as a administrator. I tried to search the user name under ldap options its coming .

I am wondering what was the issues which was not allowing ldap accounts. I started synchronizing ldap ,tested ldap everything works fine. Finally I found the events from the log but could not understand what was the issues!

vCD/vCNS 5.5 on vCenter/ESXi 5.1

Hey everyone, I am about to do an upgrade from an existing vCD 5.1.2 environment to 5.5 to resolve some bug fixes and known issues.  However I cannot upgrade ESXi to 5.5 due to HCL issues with the hosts I am running (they haven't been VETed by VMware or Cisco yet).  I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts or comments about this upgrade path?  I looked at the interop matrix and everything seems to work well together I just wanted to hear some thoughts from the community as well.  Here is what it would look like.

vCenter Chargeback 2.5.1

vCloud Network and Security 5.5

vCloud Director 5.5

vCenter 5.1 Update 1

ESXi 5.1 Update 1

Thanks in advance!

vcd / vc storage profiles failing

hi all,

not sure if this shoudl be vcd or vc post but here goes anyway.

When installing vcd 5.5 , vc 5.5 my vcenter hosts will not enable on vcd. all options are greyed out and vcd cannot do anything. I do have a number of system events reporting that storage profiles are the issue.

when i go into vcenter storage profiles are enabled but again everything is greyed out no matter what account I use. how can I enable the options to create a storage profile? I have various storage this is all lab kit so nothing too fancy.

i have a mix of iscsi on unix and windows boxes for shared storage. I would make the assumption I need to enable the storage profiles in vc prior to allow that to work in vcd

Do I need a completely separate vswitch/dvswitch for vcloud external network? Or can I use existing vswitch that i can create new port group in vcenter?

Can we upgrade a Single cell vCloud environment from 5.1 to 5.5, considering we can have a downtime available for the whole environment.

I have a single cell environment for vCloud director 5.1. I am planning to upgrade it to vCloud 5.5,  Can anyone help me with the steps, considering the fact that I have the downtime of the environment.

What concerns me is  How my environment will behave if I will upgrade the vShield Manager, as the vCloud database will not be able to update If its not powered on.

Cannot Create Network Pool

When attempting to create a PvDC I get an error in the vCD UI that says "cannot create".  I drilled down into the error and is shows the explanation below.  I also checked the -info and -debug logs on both cells in this environment and they just report the same information.  When looking at the VSM side of this puzzle, the 'network scope' seems to have been created without issue for this new PvDC.

VSM response error (100): id to load is required for loading; nested exception is java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: id to load is required for loading

Does anyone have any insight on things to check?

Is there any automated way of deleting a list of vApps from an org?

Just wondering if there exists any powercli/java code to delete the vapps from an org? Any pointers towards the same will be much appreciated..I have close to 500+ vapps in my org that i want to delete.. and doing it via the UI would be a arduous process

NTP Time Sources

$

This may have been covered in the past, but not specific to my scenario I don't believe. We have ESXi hosts, vCD, and vCNS all pointing to an external source (corporate NTP server) but the Windows Server VMs that run vCenter, vCenter Chargeback, and SQL all say they are running local CMOS time (all VMs are domain members).  I have forced some of them to go straight to the external source for time and skip the domain controller, but it brought some interesting questions to the forefront.

How should this be handled and where these VMs are getting their time from?  Are they getting time from VMware Tools or are they getting it from the domain controller?

I believe they are getting their time from the domain controller > which in turn in pointing to the external source (corp NTP server), but what is preferred method of handling this?

Source A: External Time Source (Corporate NTP Server)

Source B: Domain Controller (Sourcing time from Source A)

Source C: VMware Tools

Hi Experts,

Wish you a very happy new year.

Recently we built new VCD 5.1 setup for our Rapid provisioning. we use Java API calls to provision a VApps from VCD (5.1.2) and for some of the VApps i see the below error while starting a VApp and if we re provision again it will provision without any issues. i have ran the guest customization script and tried to unprepare and prepare the ESXI hosts. could someone suggest what might be the issue.

Unable to start a VApp “Task ID 23756 VApp name “

Upgrading from 2.3.2 to 3.2 results in many errors and breaks UM Web UI

Hi,

I added some additional comments on the post below but was asked by dbricetti to start another discussion.

https://communities.vmware.com/thread/460916

I have ran the importum command again against my 2.3.2 server in order to create the logs that Dave requested but I cannot figure out a way to copy the log files from the vCloud appliance to my machine.  I was going to try using ftp or smb but neither service exists on the appliance.  Could some explain how I transfer these log files so that I can upload them.

Automate placement on specific hosts of certain machines when deployed

we are trying to make it so servers running SQL server are only on a specific set of hosts so we don't have to license every host in the cluster for SQL server.  i know i can do it for already deployed vms using DRS rules, but is there anyway newly deployed vms can be automatically placed into DRS groups.

TIA
